The herb will then grow with a squared stemmed section. It is also smooth, has oval leaves, slightly toothed, white pink or red flowers that is found on the axils of the leaves. The leaves also have a strong fragrance when crushed.

The clove-like fragrance is due to the volatile and aromatic camphor oil. Because of the fragrance, it is greatly used on perfumes, potpourri, and food. A tea made of basil is also known to be delicious. The tea made from basil is known to help headaches, nervous tension and nausea.

Catnip – the leaves of catnip that is still young is edible when raw. They give mint like flavor that is aromatic when eaten in salads. The herb was called cat-nip because cat love to nip it. The more the plant is crushed, the more it releases oil.

The leaves and flowers of catnip also possess: astringent, carminative, antispasmodic, diaphoretic, antitussive, sedative, stimulant, tonic and stomachic properties.

This herb has been widely used to cure digestive problem as and fevers because it can cause a person to sweat.

Mild catnip tea can help babies relieve colic, nervousness and restlessness. The stronger tea can help calm older people and prevent nausea and diarrhea.

When added during the bath, it can also help skin irritations.

The important parts that must be gathered once it blooms on June to September are the leaves and the small tubular tow lipped flowers.

These are only a few herbs that can help a person experience relaxation more. These herbs can help contribute to a person’s well being as well.
