Nicotine is a very powerful drug that may lead to an individual becoming physically and psychologically dependent on its presence in the individual’s body.

Why should you quit smoking?

That’s the question that smokers love to ask. But shouldn’t the right question be why shouldn’t you quit smoking?

Consider the statistics involved in smoking. People who smoke are proven to be more vulnerable to diseases and an early death. People who smoke are more liable to affect those close to them negatively. Secondhand smoke, as they say, is sometimes more fatal than firsthand smoke. If you’re pregnant, are you aware that you’ll improve your unborn baby’s health when you decide to quit smoking? If you have a serious medical condition, are you aware that you’ll be able to lessen health problems just by making the decision to quit smoking?

Are you convinced to quit smoking now?

If so, here are some quick and easy tips to help you quit smoking.

The first thing you must do is set a quit-smoking-date, so to speak. From that day forward, you must do everything within your power to quit smoking. Choose the date wisely so that you’ll be able to keep your word but of course, don’t choose a date that’s so far off that would make your achieving your objective useless.

Once that fateful day arrives, you must then be strong and get rid of everything in your life that is directly and indirectly related to smoking. Naturally, cigarettes must now be banned from your house and office. Cigarette boxes may remind you of what you’re smoking so if you truly want to quit smoking, get rid of those too, even if they’re one of your most prized collections.

When you decide to quit smoking and start sticking to goal, you’ll start experiencing a variety of withdrawal symptoms, some of which are just bothersome while a few may be downright painful. Dizziness, insomnia, an increased appetite and having headaches are examples of such symptoms.

To combat these symptoms effectively, you can consult your doctor about quit-smoking-medication such as nicotine patches. Nicotine patches are said to be thoroughly effective and safe to use.

You may also consider taking up a new hobby because it can divert your attention from the pains of resisting smoking to your newfound area of interest.

Nicotine is a very powerful drug that may lead to an individual becoming physically and psychologically dependent on its presence in the individual’s body. It affects your heart, lungs, metabolism and even your brain. If you haven’t decided to quit smoking, then you must decide to do so now if you don’t want to go to an early grave.
