Eggs for Good Health

While villified for a long time, eggs are making a resurgent in becoming a healthy part of a good diet. Seems your mother was right all along! Learn how to put the healthy egg into a good diet plan by reading this informative article.

The egg, which had almost been relegated to the list of forbidden food for health buffs these past few decades, is making a comeback.

This is partly due to vigorous lobbying by the egg industry. However, lobby or not, recent researches do shed some light on the fact that the egg, although high in cholesterol, can readily fit into a heart-healthy, nutritious and enjoyable dietary pattern.

The following are the healthy facts about eggs which should make you change your mind about this healthy and extremely versatile food. So read up and learn!

Eggs and Nutrition

The egg is one of nature’s most complete foods, next perhaps only to milk. You can get almost all the nutrients you need from the egg that are necessary for growth, proper nutrition, preventing aging and for healing.

Eggs and Cholesterol

True, the egg may be rich in cholesterol but it’s the good cholesterol, which it has plenty of. This cholesterol is used by the body to produce the female and male hormones, essential steroids and vitamin E, among other things.

The cholesterol in the egg, when not taken in excessive amounts (as with anything else, for that matter), does not pose a problem to the body, unlike saturated fat from pork and other sources of lipids. Excess saturated fat can get deposited in the liver, contributing to congested or fatty liver. In contrast, cholesterol from the egg goes to the gastro-intestinal tract, not to the bloodstream. The cholesterol from eggs, in fact, helps decongest the liver.

Eggs and Cancer

To get rid or to prevent cancer, the body needs glutathione peroxidase, a very critical element that happens to be present in eggs. It is the final antioxidant which delivers vitamin A, E, and C to body tissues. If the liver has accumulated toxin, this toxin can be eliminated without glutathione peroxidase.

Eggs and the Lungs

The egg is also a good source of lecithin and choline for the brain, liver, and lung development. It is needed for lungs to expand properly.

Eggs and Babies

To help ensure the healthy growth of babies, they should be given eggs from six months onward; along with full cream milk—not low fat—and cheese. When you remove the cream in milk, you take away some essential substance that kill pathogenic bacteria on contact. Taking milk without the cream deprives children of more complete nutrition and resistance against disease. It is the cream in the milk that facilitates the production of antibodies.
