As a highly effective anti-oxidant, vitamin E is a major nutrient in preventing stretch marks. This vitamin makes it possible for women to retain a smooth skin, even after pregnancy.
Pregnancy is usually considered a wonderful time for women because this is the time when a woman truly finds out how it is to bring another human being to life. Unfortunately, pregnancy produces a less desirable result – stretch marks. The presence of stretch marks takes away the usually smooth and beautiful skin. These stretch marks make a woman less confident about herself. Stretch marks appear because the skin of the pregnant woman, particularly in the abdomen, the buttocks, and the breasts, expands faster. The skin stretches to adjust to the growing human being inside the womb. But during the stretching, the skin breaks gradually. Such breaks are fixed by the body’s ability to form scars. These scars are medically referred to as “striae”. These scars are more commonly known as the undesirable stretch marks. Stretch marks appear as discolored streaks on the abdomen. Some stretch marks are reddish, others are brown, and still others are dark brown. As time goes by, after pregnancy, the skin attempts to replace the discolored stretch marks with the real skin. This is how stretch marks start to disappear. But the tearing of the skin may be too severe and there will be too stretch marks to repair. A woman can help her body effectively repair the skin and erase the stretch marks by taking vitamin E. This vitamin is known as an “anti-aging” vitamin because it is a powerful antioxidant. That is, vitamin E can prevent rapid oxidation in the body that eventually lead to aging. Today, this vitamin E is rapidly gaining the reputation as an “anti-stretch mark” vitamin. The vitamin E can prevent and treat stretch marks. Stretch marks can be prevented by vitamin E because this vitamin makes the skin more elastic and firm. When the skin is firmer and more elastic, the skin is less vulnerable to breaking due to its over stretching during pregnancy. This means that the more elastic skin is less likely to produce the scars called stretch marks. Stretch marks can be treated by vitamin E because of this vitamin’s ability to stimulate the growth of new skin cells. The vitamin E actually penetrates deeper in the skin where it fixes the scarred tissue under the stretch marks. With regeneration of new cells, the stretch marks become shorter and thinner. Eventually, with the help of vitamin E, the stretch marks will no longer be noticeable. There are many forms of vitamin E. These are the alpha, beta, delta, and gamma tocopherol. Among these forms, the most useful for skin regeneration is the alpha-tocopherol. A woman may obtain the much needed vitamin E from mangoes, kiwi fruits, and almonds. Or she may use the vitamin E found in the Stretch Mark Prevention Cream. |
