Valerian Can Solve Sleepless Nights
People who have sleepless nights often turn to prescription drugs to make them fall asleep but in the morning, they still feel tired.  A good sleep is a deep sleep that relieves the body of fatigue.  Valerian can help a person get that deep sleep.

Insomnia and other sleeping disorders are not problems that a person can sleep on.  While living a relatively healthy lifestyle can reduce the risks of having insomnia, a person may still develop it or other sleeping disorders due to no apparent reason at all.  But people who frequently find themselves in stressful situations or who are undergoing drastic changes in their lives are prone to have sleeping disorders.

When they finally developed sleeping disorders, they turn to prescription drugs.  Many of them believe that such prescription drugs or sleeping pills are safe since doctors prescribe these drugs.  But frequently using these drugs is not healthy.  These prescription drugs produce side effects, such as headaches and a fatigue feeling even when a person just woke up.  Some of these sleeping pills are habit-forming, just like an addictive drug.

Fortunately, there is a medicinal herb that can help a person solve his sleepless nights.  This herb is called the Valerian (scientific name: Valerian officinalis).  Valerian is known by many different names, such as All Heal, Setwall, Vandal Root, Phu, and Moon Root.

In the ancient times, the Valerian has been used by several civilizations for various purposes.  In ancient Greece, Hippocrates noted that the root of the Valerian has substances that are classified as a powerful nervine.  In South America, the Incas and the Aztecs used the Valerian for massages.  In North America, the native Indians use it to cure cuts and wounds.  In ancient Rome, the Valerian is used to treat heart palpitations and high blood pressure.  And in the Mediterranean area, Galen was known to use Valerian for epilepsy.

During the more recent history, Valerian is used by Gerard (of England) to treat croup, coughs, and plagues.  In Russia, Valerian is part of the local list of herbal roots used to minister people who are suffering from migraine, hysteria, and high blood pressure.  And in Europe, during the WW1 and WW2, the Valerian is used to treat soldiers for shell shock, and to calm civilians during a bombing episode.

Today, Valerian is known as a potent relaxant.  It is used to effectively relieve stress, anxiety, headaches, stomach cramps, fatigue, muscle spasms, and even insomnia.   Substances from the root of this herb have been studied and found to evidently improve a person’s quality of sleep.

The effect of Valerian, however, is not instantaneous.  Its effect is to help the body attain a balance so that the body’s sleeping pattern will improve.  This may take several weeks.  But the good thing about Valerian is that it causes no addiction or dependence.

Valerian is one of the major ingredients of Melatrol.  Valerian is the component of Melatrol that helps users to take less and less of Melatrol as time goes by, until the body can fall asleep without the assistance of this herbal formulation.
