The Dangers of Hormonal Replacement Therapy
Hormonal replacement therapy (HRT) is an offered alternative to estrogen replacement therapy to reduce the risk of uterine cancer.  But HRT has its own dangerous side effects.  Do women in their menopause have another alternative?

A woman, in her menopausal stage, faces higher risks of acquiring osteoporosis and heart diseases.  Such is not just due to her being in the state of menopause.  At this age (around 45 to 60), she also experiences other drastic changes in life, such as deaths of loved ones, going away of grown-up children, and retirement.

These social changes take a toll on her emotional strength, which is already taking a beating due to the uncontrollable changes in her body.  To cope, a woman may use ERT (estrogen replacement therapy), but this was already associated with uterine cancer, specifically, cancer of the lining of the uterus.  What actually happens is that the estrogen has a thickening effect on the lining of the uterus.

An alternative to ERT is the HRT or the hormonal replacement therapy.   This method involves the supply of both estrogen and progesterone.  The progesterone is another female hormone that counteracts the effect of estrogen.  That is, it prevents the lining of the uterus from becoming thick.  The progesterone in HRT prevents uterine cancer.

Unfortunately, the HRT also has its own set of side effects.  Some side effects are minor.  A relatively healthy woman may not experience these minor side effects.  If she does, her body and mind can cope with them.  These side effects are irritating headaches, sudden breast pain, and unexplained nausea.

The more serious side effects of HRT are the following:

· Heart Disease – According to the latest research conducted by the Women’s Health Initiative, the hormonal replacement therapy does not prevent heart attacks.  Although HRT can reduce the levels of LDL (low density lipoproteins) or bad cholesterol, and HRT can increase the levels of HDL (high density lipoproteins) or good cholesterol, such effects does not preclude a heart attack.

· Breast Cancer – The HRT may reduce the risk of uterine cancer, but it increases the risk of breast cancer.  Such risk increases with the duration that the woman is having the HRT.  For example, a woman who has been using HRT for eight years is more prone to breast cancer than a woman who has been using HRT for one year.

· Fatal Blood Clotting – Blood clotting may occur in the deep veins of the legs. pelvis and arms.  Such clotting is called deep vein thrombosis.  The blot clots will accumulate, break open, or travel to the lungs, where it can lead to pulmonary embolism.  The pulmonary embolism may lead to death.  Fortunately, blood clotting rarely happens.

The above side effects may lead to the death of the menopausal woman.  Thus, many are devising alternative ways to help the female body cope with menopause.  One way is to take supplements, such as Menozac, a combination of powerful natural ingredients that will help a woman in her menopausal stage.
