Black Cohosh: Herbal Treatment for Menopause
Black Cohosh is one of the many herbs used as an alternate for homone treatment. This article discuses how effective it is and the possible dangers.

Menopause is really a bitch, figuratively and literally. The symptoms of menopause can be very bothersome for women. A woman may feel moody, hot flashes, headaches, achy joints, insomnia, frequent urination, difficulty concentrating, frequency of urinations and sometimes osteoporosis.

All of the symptoms mentioned above are all very bothersome to a woman. That’s why there are certain treatments that can be provided by the physician. One treatment is the hormone therapy. The hormone therapy can eliminate hot flashes, prevent osteoporosis, and improve moods. However using hormone therapy can be risky because it may cause heart disease or breast cancer.

Instead of using hormone therapy, one can use the herb known as black cohosh. Black cohosh has already been administered during the past 40 years to 2,600 patients in drug trials and case reports.

Research of the past two decades on black cohosh has been focusing on emotional symptoms and hot flashes associated with menopause. The research has also been saying that using black cohosh is safe and effective alternative to hormone therapy that is inadvisable or refused.

There was a study done to study the effectiveness of black cohosh. Women who experienced 14 hot flashes in week were the only ones to ask to participate. The women were given black cohosh for about five week and answered questionnaires on a daily basis. The average age of the women who participated was 56.

The result of the studies was amazing. 50% of the mean of the hot flashes of the women decreased during the span of the study. The patients also reported less trouble sleeping, less abnormal sweating and less fatigue. The study seems to have proven in a way the effectiveness of the substance. However, some side effects are still unknown.

A very doubtful person may first want to learn more about the black cohosh. There was a report in a Brisbane Medical Journal about the black cohosh. It seems to have been saying the same results were achieved of a woman taking the herb.

However, there were no exact mention of what part of the plant did the extract come from, the chemicals added or supplied and the quality and dosage to be taken.

The Black Cohosh after lots of years of research haven’t been proven to be toxic or destructive to one’s liver. The substances found in the medication haven’t been proven to be damaging to one’s liver as well.

Before deciding to use Black Cohosh, compare it well with the other medications present. Also ask advice from people who have used it before or your physician.
