An Alternative to ERT and HRT
Two solutions that women resort to, when they suffer menopausal symptoms, are Estrogen Replacement Therapy (ERT) and Hormonal Replacement Therapy (HRT).  But these produce side effects.  What could be a better alternative?

When a woman enters the stage of menopause, she is again starting a new phase of her life.  Menopause is a big change for her.  It is not a disease.  And it is not a crisis.  But it is characterized by a radical drop of levels of estrogens in a woman’s body.  With such hormonal imbalance, a woman becomes prone to certain diseases, such as osteoporosis.  She also suffers certain episodes which are described as menopausal symptoms.

Some examples of menopausal symptoms are:
· Hot flashes
· Mood swings
· Irritability
· Anxiety
· Insomnia
· Vaginal dryness

To alleviate or avoid such symptoms, women seek relief from ERT or HRT.  ERT means Estrogen Replacement Therapy.  While HRT means Hormonal Replacement Therapy.

During the menopausal stage, a woman’s ovaries no longer produce as much estrogen as they used to.  The ERT basically supplies the estrogens that the woman no longer produces but still needs.  Thus, the ERT can certainly lessen or inhibit the occurrence of hot flashes, insomnia, and dryness in the vagina.  The ERT reduces the woman’s risk of having osteoporosis and heart diseases.

Unfortunately, using ERT has been linked to endometrial cancer or cancer of the lining of the uterus.  To reduce the risk of cancer, some women take progesterone together with estrogens.  Progesterone is another female hormone that keeps the lining of the uterus protected.

When a woman also takes progesterone therapy, she is having HRT.  The hormonal replacement therapy supplies a woman with two types female hormones, the progesterone and the estrogens.  Thus, this medical method is also referred to as EPT or estrogen/progestin therapy or combination hormone therapy.

The HRT can definitely alleviate menopausal symptoms such as hot flashes.  But it produces side effects that women may not be willing to risk.  The less serious side effects of HRT include headaches, nausea, and pain in the breast.

The more serious risks include vein clots in the legs (called deep vein thrombosis), blood clots in the lungs (called pulmonary embolus), breast cancer, stroke, and abnormal vaginal bleeding.  Some doctors assure women that, if they are relatively healthy, it will be unlikely that they will experience these risks.  But, with these risks, some women may not find using HRT as worth it.

Thus, women are still seeking other alternatives.  One alternative is to keep a healthy diet.  Staying healthy will make her body better able to cope with the low levels of estrogens.  Another alternative is to have a regular exercise.  Research has shown that exercise induces the body to produce more estrogens.  And still another alternative is to take supplements, such as Menozac.

Menozac is a combination of natural products such as vitamin E and herbs that supply phytoestrogens.  The ingredients of Menozac can effectively relieve menopausal symptoms without the risk of cancer or other diseases.
