There are lots of plants out there that have medicinal properties. In fact, long before capsules and syrups where created people had to rely from medicinal plants. However, not all of these herbs could be used directly. The person needs to add some other herbs to counter act and prevent bad damages. Here are some ways on how you may use herbs. Teas: The herbs that are used for herbal teas are those that are cut and sifted. The tea can also be made from the crumbled dried flowers and teas. The herbs that are to be made for tea are supposed to be prepared in nonmetallic containers. The herbs should then be steeped in the nonmetallic container with water that has just been boiled. This is used to infuse them and prevent the herbs from losing their medicinal properties. For the roots and barks of herbs they are often decocted to extract their healing agents. They must also be simmered at a nonmetallic container for about an hour. It should then be left to simmer uncovered, until the water is now reduced to half the amount. If the herbs have important volatile oils it should be simmered in a pot tightly covered. Herbal teas should not be added sugar. If you need to sweeten it, use unmolested honey because it has nutritional benefits. Oils: Fresh herbs that contain those volatile oils are the ones used for oil extracts to heal. It is necessary that the herbs be fresh. They are then crushed with a pestle and mortar. For every two ounces of herbs, add one pint of olive or sesame oil. Then fro three days, the mixture should be stored in a warm place away from light. To help prevent light, it is suggested to store it at a dark glassed container. After the three days have passed add one capsule of Vitamin E. This helps preserve the extracted oil. Syrups: Herbs that are made into syrups are for those with colds and cough. It is also made to be taken easier by children. Two ounces of herbs should be made in a nonmetallic container with a quart of water. Boil it slowly and gently until only a pint of liquid has been left. While it is still warm, strain it and add honey or glycerin. For flavor juice or lemon oil can be added.
