Asthma Triggers
Asthma effects many millions of people world wide. Learning what triggers an attack can help you learn how to prevent them in the first place. Through the understanding of asthma and its triggers you can get back to living a normal life.

Asthma is a very serious chronic ailment that is suffered by lots of people. This situation gives affected person problems in breathing due to the tightening of the lung muscles. This is because of the certain triggers that make extra sensitive lungs have trouble in breathing. Learning how to avoid these triggers will help an asthmatic person have less chances of getting an asthma attack. Here is a list of common asthma triggers that asthmatic persons should learn to avoid.

1. Cold Air – there are some asthmatics who think that cold air won’t trigger their asthma. Cold air can retrigger asthma attacks because when cold air enters the lungs it causes airway restrictions. To prevent cold air to retrigger the asthma, wear a scarf around your neck and nose. This helps warm the air before it enters your lungs. During colder months, asthmatics should also avoid the outdoors.

2. Strong smelling fragrances can also retrigger asthma. These things are paints, stains or varnishes. Perfumes or colognes that also have strong fragrances can retrigger asthma. Avoid wearing perfumes or colognes that could trigger your asthma. If persons at work wear strong perfumes, go talk to them about your problem. They might be willing to oblige.

3. The environment where you work can have some things that retrigger your asthma. Thins such as chemicals, cleaning products, dust, or industrial solvents. These things are the hardest thing to avoid. Ask your employer a favor by changing some stuff such as their cleaning products. Bring a note from your doctor to be more helpful.

4. Smokes form pipes or cigars are the most common triggers of asthma. Other smokes such as camp fires, grills, wood burns, or candles can also trigger asthma. Asthmatic people should try not to smoke. If your friends smoke or coworkers just try to be far away from them when they smoke.
5. The droppings of cockroaches when inhaled can cause a person to have asthma attacks. When an asthmatic person lives in an area where it is infested with cockroaches it will become a bigger problem. Use bait traps rather than chemical sprays to remove the cockroaches if you are asthmatic. If the roaches are really abundant just get an exterminator. Don’t get back at your home for a few days until the fumes of the exterminator have been removed.

6. The pollens that come from the anthers of plants that are then carried by the wind, insects or animals can also retrigger your asthma. The inhaled pollen will give the person an allergic reaction. Aside form the allergic reaction, the increased airway activity also increases the chances of asthma attacks. When the days seem to have high pollen counts, I.e. spring, or summer, avoid going out.
