Asthma Overview
What is asthma? What is it that makes it hard to breath and think that everything is so hard and nothing else matters? Learn what asthma is exactly and take the first step. It is through understanding something that one can start to battle it.

When you watch most horror movies, there is always a character who is suffering from asthma. In fact it seems that guy always gets caught by the killers because of his asthma problems. Talk about depressing, a person is already suffering from a chronic ailment and he or she gets to be slashed up too.

But what is asthma really? Is this really a disease that gets people killed in slasher movies? It is really a chronic respiratory disease. This disease is linked with the environment, allergies, weight, or being hereditary. This causes often links to increased airway inflammation that results in recurring attacks such as labored breathing, chest constriction, wheezing and coughing.

Asthma is always recurring to a person because of the overly sensitive airways in the lungs. Each different person will have something different that triggers his or her asthma attacks.

The following symptoms stated above such as wheezing, coughing, labored breathing and chest constrictions vary from person to person. The severity and length also depends on a person’s current situation. The severity of the disease also differs on different times of the year. For instance when it is colder or during spring time when there is more pollen, a person suffering asthma may experience it more.

There have been lots of people asking what really causes asthma. Up to now, research still doesn’t know what really causes asthma. They only know that it is triggered by certain things. Some believe that there is a hereditary link between the antibodies that are associated with allergic reactions that are hereditary.

Obesity is also linked up with asthma. But I think that obese people who are wheezing are just confused. They may be just exhausted from walking a few blocks. All jokes aside, the main links in obesity is that as the weight increases, there is a greater chance for inflammation in the airways. Increased airway responsiveness is also linked up with increased weight in the lungs.

Here are the common things that cause an asthmatic person to retrigger attacks. Attacks are retriggered when a person increases his or her airway responsiveness.

• Dust or dusty stuff should be avoided.

• Animal fur, coats, or dander. Any hair that is associated with animals should also be avoided.

• Pollen, especially during summer, spring or blooming seasons.

• The climate or weather. If the climate becomes colder asthma may be reoccur.

• Too much physical exercise or exertion. This causes the lungs to breathe faster and tire out.

• Be sure that you are not allergic or have certain reactions to some medications.

• The chemicals where you work. Bad or stinky fumes where you live near.

• First or secondary cigarette smoke or any other smoke.
